Are those tortillas on the floor? There is a lot going on in the image. It feels very cluttered but that isn't a bad thing. There is a strong repetition of elements like the baskets in the foreground and the metal trays in the back. The subject is clearly at work and appears neither content or disgruntled, but rather neutral. It's 2:11 P.M. which means he's working the lunch hour and probably has a few more hours before his shift is over. The clock really gets me in this image. It gives me the feeling of watching the clock slowly drag on during work or school.
I feel like if the image was a bit lighter it would be easier to understand what is going on. There is a lot of circle repetition in the image which creates a visually pleasing experience. Though I think that the space to the left of the subject is a bit distracting and unnecessary. Since the subject is turned completely, facing the left side of the frame, I feel that he could be positioned more to the right, so that his action isn't as centered. Or, the image could be cropped slightly to get rid of the space on the right. This image communicates the idea of a man working in a kitchen, showing to the viewers what it is like behind the scenes of a restaurant or eatery.
I know this feeling- the repetition of work. The man is the one that makes your meal but is never seen. His posture fits in with the somewhat relaxed but still productive kitchen and his shift just drags on...I think that getting more information on the left side of the image would more closely align us with the subject while capturing more of the right side would keep us at a distance from the man- whatever the intention is.
I love that this image is in black and white and I like the contrast of it. He looks quite content with his work though you can tell from what he is doing that it is a lot of repetitive work that can get tedious quite easily. Though the image is a bit busy, I am not that distracted. If anything, it shows the environment that he is inhabiting and sometimes those environments can be chaotic.
I like the business of this picture, both of the people are obviously engrossed in what they're doing and working hard. I also like that most items in this are surrounded by similar items, it gives a very "this is a business" feel to the picture. The clock gives context showing that they are in the middle of a shift.
The image is well composed and fairly clear in its meaning. Both people are engaged in some cooking related activity (I'd probably know what they're preparing if I was more versed in the culinary arts). I find the cluttered appearance of the space gives the image a sense of authenticity. It looks like a working kitchen. The image has a balance contrast between shadow and highlight, and I think it was a good choice to go with black and white.
Dude making food, reads pretty clear. He seems pretty happy about it all too. I just wish the other guy was either framed in or out more. The back of his head is in limbo back there.
